A medium-to-large size oak, the Chinkapin Oak is an ideal tree for larger lawns, estates, or parks. The average specimen will grow around 40 to 50 feet tall under landscaped conditions or as tall as 80 feet high in the wild. The Chinkapin is especially well-known for its sweet and palatable acorns – often 1 inch in diameter – that provide a food source for both wildlife and people. Squirrels, mice, voles, deer, turkey, and other bird species all thrive on acorns from this oak. Wood from the Chinkapin Oak is often used for construction.
